Water Shortage
There was a point in time when rice supply cut short that even the government has decided to sell NFA rice only to the poorest families. The same story goes when oil prices continued to rise for 18 consecutive weeks due to oil crisis that affected the entire globe. And now, another basic commodity is found inadequate! Not enough water in case of fire, according to Pasay City inspectors who recently checked water supply sources of buildings which caught fire last month.
Water is a good fire extinguishing fluid since it has a high heat of vaporization. Therefore, having a low water supply would give the local firemen a very difficult time to fight fire. Although not all classes of fire can be controlled by water such as electrical fires and fires involving flammable liquids. Use of water when fighting fires in confined spaces also poses the hazard of steam or hydrogen explosion. This is mainly because of the presence of certain substances like metals or graphite materials which react with water that eventually produce hydrogen gas. Take for example the Chernobyl disaster wherein an explosion took place resulting from steam and hot zirconium reaction.
